For instance, a 12 volt kettle may take significantly longer to boil water and drain a substantial amount of power from your main battery. Similarly, some mini 12 volt hairdryers may not perform as efficiently as their 240 volt counterparts. It’s highly advisable to inquire about the performance of 12 volt camping items before making a purchase, as sometimes it may be more practical to stick with traditional methods.
Recapping, 240 volt power will only be active when hooked up to a main power supply (or if you opt to have an inverter in your van for off-grid camping), whilst your 12 volt power comes from the built-in leisure battery, therefore your fridge, lights, USB ports and TV do not need mains power to operate.
