There are many companies out there offering campervan conversions. What’s the difference between those offering ‘engineer approval’ or ‘second stage compliance’ and those that aren’t?  Why do you need this anyway?  A quick and simple answer: if your conversion or modification isn’t certified you’re driving around with a vehicle that is not insured for your upgrades. This means you are personally liable for any issues an overweight or unsafe conversion causes on the road. It also means you won’t be covered by insurance for the cost of the conversion/modifications if you’re in an accident.  For more information on this see our blog here.

Our showroom opening hours are:

Mondays: 9 am – 3 pm

Tuesdays: 9 am – 4:30 pm

Wednesdays: 9 am – 3 pm

Thursdays:  9 am – 3 pm

Friday: 9 am – 2 pm.

We are open for reduced hours over Victorian School Holidays as most of our staff are working parents and we are a family-friendly business.

About three weeks depending on your conversion. A motorhome conversion takes a little longer (approximately between four and five weeks).

We include a five-year warranty with regular free servicing of your conversion (at six months, 12 months and two years).  The exclusion on the warranty is the leisure battery which has a warranty of two years.  The vehicle itself is covered by a Volkswagens/Mercedes five-year warranty.

We use our campervans and motorhomes regularly and believe in ‘testing’ them on a minimum two week road trip every time we make a small change.  It’s on these road trips that we often think of further innovations that would even better enhance the campervanning experience.  Then we get to go on more holidays.  Everyone’s a winner!

We only convert Volkswagen Crafter mid-wheelbase vans into our motorhome, and Volkswagen T6.1 long-wheelbase and short-wheelbase and Mercedes Vito into our campervans. The vehicle must be ordered through us.  Occasionally, we convert VW T5 or T6 vans supplied by the client however, an additional fee is charged to convert supplied vans.  Please contact us for more information.

Unfortunately not.

Hmmm. No, sorry!  Only new VW Transporters or Mercedes Vitos ordered through us.

I’m sure you catch our drift… :>

Absolutely! We are an LMCT and we will purchase your new VW T6.1, VW Crafter or Mercedes Vito for you.  Even better, we don’t do ‘packages’ therefore you don’t have to take a whole lot of VW or Mercedes vehicle features that you do not want or need. We’ll order the vehicle you want specifically to your requirements.

Visit the cost estimate page on our webiste, here.

To view our completed campervans for sale check out our for sale page on this website.

Read our blog post on this very subject, which should help you decide.

Another good question! Watch our very short video which explains the windows we’d suggest getting fitted.  We will organise this for you as part of our vehicle order with VW or Mercedes.

Once you’ve booked in we’ll send you a ‘choose your colours’ form with instructions on how you can view all of the colour possibilities online.  We will then post you out samples in the mail of whatever fabrics and colours you would like to see and you can choose your favourites from!

You can choose from over nine bright (and neutral!) colours for your cabinetry, a different colour for your benchtop, any colour you can think of for your rock and roll bed/seat and from over six neutral colours for interior lining/carpet.

It’s 1.20 metres x 2.00 metres (about double bed size).

You can but we will only supply and fit the bed in a new VW T6.1 or Mercedes Vito van ordered through us.  Unfortunately, we need to install it in the van and can’t sell you the seat as a separate item without installation.

It’s just under 2.10 metres for a VW Transporter (an awning won’t change this height).

Yes, this is an additional extra and can sleep two adults.

Yes we can, the weight restriction is 40kg.

Not a quick answer so we’ve written a blog entry – read it here!

Good point.  Campervanning is a complicated business.

We’ve covered pretty much every piece of information on every single feature and vehicle question you might need in our blog on this website.

Here are a few of our most popular…

Do I need solar and when would I use it?

Do I need a pop-top roof (it’s a big expense!)?

What’s 12 volts, what’s 240 volts and what’s the difference?! (This is so confusing!)

How does the leisure battery work in your campervan??

When you are happy to go ahead and book in your campervan conversion we require a $10,000 deposit to secure your van, we will then order your new VW T6.1 or Mercedes Vito from Germany and book in your conversion date.

The balance payment on the vehicle is due when it arrives with us from VW/Mercedes (four to seven months after order date).

50% of the conversion cost is due eight weeks prior to the conversion date and the balance due upon pick up of your completed campervan.

Yes!

No worries, talk to us and we’ll organise it for you.

The majority of our campervans are built for clients interstate (must be something about the weather?!)  Organising your campervan can be done easily via a mixture of email and video calls.  We can send you samples of all the materials colours you are considering when choosing the colour scheme for your van.

When picking up your completed campervan or motorhome pick you up from Avalon Airport which is a 30-minute drive from our workshop. If you would like to be picked up or dropped off please email us your flight number and arrival/departure date/time.

Alternatively, if you are catching a plane from Melbourne Airport there is an hourly bus which runs from Geelong Train station (three minutes walk from Achtung Camper workshop). If you are travelling to or from Melbourne regular trains run from Geelong station (one hour travel time, trains running every 30minutes to one hour).

When driving home we’ll supply you with a Vic Roads permit which allows you to drive from our workshop to your destination within seven days via the ‘most direct route’.

With insurance we generally recommend CIL as they are one of the biggest in Australia and the cheapest – they also have wonderful service. If you contact them mention our referrer number: 44146875 as we are registered with them. Their number is 1800 112 481 or cilinsurance.com.au

The only feature we consider almost a necessity is the ‘Comfort Pack’. Essentially you are paying a few thousand dollars for armrests for the driver and passenger, but after thousands of km’s on the road – it will be worth it.

For more info on the Comfort Pack see our blog here.

We have three service centre locations: Geelong, Victoria, Burleigh Heads, Queensland and Sydney, New South Wales.  To book your FREE CAMPERVAN SERVICE or aftermarket items please email our after-sales manager at aftersales@achtungcamper.com.au
