Forrest, located just a short distance from Geelong and Torquay, offers a delightful weekend getaway for nature enthusiasts and mountain biking enthusiasts alike. During our recent camping trip in Forrest, we explored the town’s attractions and experienced two different campgrounds. In this blog post, we’ll share our insights on the town’s attractions, camping options, and convenient location for city dwellers.
Town Attractions:
1. Lake Elizabeth: Take a leisurely walk around the picturesque Lake Elizabeth, surrounded by majestic scenery.
2. Hiking Trails: Forrest boasts numerous hiking trails, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
3. Mountain Biking: Known as a mountain biking mecca, Forrest attracts biking enthusiasts from all over. The town offers excellent mountain biking trails for riders of all levels.
4. The Brewery: Visit the local brewery, which offers a selection of great beers, tasty food, and cozy couches for relaxing. It’s a perfect spot to unwind and pass the time if the weather isn’t favorable.
5. General Store/Café: Across from the Brewery, you’ll find a charming café with delicious homemade pies, cakes, and gifts to enjoy.
Campground Options:
1. Stephenson’s Falls: Although beautiful, this National Park camping area can get crowded, especially during peak times. It offers limited privacy and activities besides the short walk to the falls. Arriving early is advisable to secure a spot.
2. The Wonky Stable’s Campground: Located in the heart of Forrest, this paid campground surprised us with its peaceful atmosphere, scenic views of rolling hills, individual fire pits, hot showers, and a new camp kitchen. It also provides convenient access to the local pub and the Brewery.
Location:
Forrest’s location is ideal for city dwellers seeking a quick escape. It’s only about an hour’s drive from Geelong or Torquay and approximately two hours from Melbourne, making it easily accessible for a weekend adventure.
Forrest offers a delightful camping experience with its natural beauty, mountain biking trails, and charming attractions. While exploring the town, we found the Wonky Stable’s Campground to be a pleasant surprise, offering peaceful surroundings and essential amenities. Whether you’re seeking outdoor activities, relaxation, or tasty brews, Forrest has something to offer just a short distance from major cities.
