Best Way to Boil Water on the Road

One of the questions we get asked often by new Achtung Campers is how best to boil water on the road. Of course, depending on what you’re needing the water for you can always use the stove top. But if you’re just wanting a quick cuppa you may not have the energy to pull out the stove top – that’s where this travel kettle comes in.

Recommended to us by one of our Achtung Campers, the Russell Hobbs 23840 Compact Travel Electric Kettle is the perfect addition to your campervan. Rather than using the stove top, you can run this kettle off of the inverter. It is 1000 watts and took just under 4  minutes to boil 500 ml (2 cups) and, in the experience of one Achtung Camper, the battery only went down by 2%.  At $38, we definitely think that it’s an affordable and worthwhile addition to your campervan kitchen.

As if it were made with an Achtung Campervan in mind, the plug lead fits down the back of the cabinet to the double power point for the microwave so it can stay in place permanently if you so choose. (Traveller tip: a small bungee cord will hold it in place when driving.) The kettle also has a built in auto shut-off option!

One thing to note: it comes with a UK plug, so you will require an Aussie adapter.

Now you’ll be able to have your first cuppa in the morning with minimal effort and as soon as possible, saving your energy for all of your adventures for the rest of the day! That’s a win-win situation if we’ve ever heard of one!

We hope that this product comes in handy on your next road trip. If you’ve been travelling and have found a product that you absolutely can’t live without, share it with the Achtung Community!
