Staying Connected | Starlink for your Campervan

Stay connected when on the road with Starlink for your campervan. Digital nomads, off-grid explorers and weekend wanderers can stream, scroll and meet from just about anywhere in Australia.

What is Starlink?

Starlink offers kits that are easily attached to your van and allows high-speed internet to be delivered to areas that are more remote, and when wi-fi is unavailable.

With a Starlink kit it means you’ve got reliable internet access in remote areas from satellite-based internet.

If you’ve ever struggled with an inconsistent mobile signal while travelling, Starlink is your solution. It’s ideal for:

  1. Working on the road: Digital nomads can now enjoy meetings from the beach or send emails from a forest.
  2. Entertainment: Stream movies, browse social media, and keep the kids happy in the evening—even when you’re off-grid.
  3. Navigation & safety: Access live maps, check weather forecasts, or call for help, even in the middle of nowhere. Both the Starlink Mini and Gen 3 Dish work in motion up to 160km/h.

Option 1: Starlink Gen 3 Standard Vehicle Kit

This is the workhorse of the two options, it is more reliable with less disconnections, but it does require more power and more room on the roof. Gen 3 would the option if you travel full-time, work on the road, have multiple users or devices, want the fastest speeds available or rely on high-speed connections.

Features:

  • Usage: Medium to Heavy Usage/Running Business on the Road
  • Connectivity: Gen 3 is good for 5-8 people comfortably
  • Power: 45W Average Power Consumption (Constant)
  • 200m Wi-Fi Range as Standard
  • Avg Speeds 150-250Mbps

Option 2: Starlink Mini Vehicle Kit

Features:

  • Usage: Light Usage i.e. some phone calls, emails, maps etc
  • Connectivity: Starlink Mini is suitable for one to two people
  • Power: 25W average power consumption (constant)
  • Range: Power supply as standard or 200m long range 200m set up
  • Speeds: Average speed of 50-140Mbps

This is the one to get you out of trouble or if you are looking for a super portable set up. However, it is more susceptible to micro drop outs and poor phone connection when travelling under trees. This is a result of the dish being smaller and bouncing between satellites more often.  You can make this a portable/movable unit but you would require a couple of things to make this possible such as a quick release bracket and power to dish.

Both of which are designed to be either a permanent or removable (with use of the quick release system) fixture on the roof. Mini is small, light and compact but doesn’t perform as well as the Gen 3.
